Islam, KJV Onlyism
and Church of Christ

ISLAM

Recently, while evangelizing and preaching Jesus in the open air, a Muslim challenged the truth of Christianity with the following:

What is the first of the 10 Commandments?

Exodus 20:2,3 supplies the answer:

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.

Since Islam denies the deity of Christ and thinks such a concept is a violation to Ex. 20:2,3, he would wrongly, therefore, think he found an inconsistency and error in the Bible. However, since the Bible teaches the God (YHWH) who spoke in Exodus 20 is compound unity (Elohim) and Jesus is God by nature (as well as man), then for a Christian to repeat the exalted titles/names of the Lord is not error.

Islam’s Koran also, shockingly, denies Jesus died on the cross and therefore is clearly opposed to God’s truth. A Christian cannot, therefore, consider any such religious belief compatible with Scripture in any way, shape or form.

KJV ONLYISM

It is very important for people to realize that the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible is only a translation. In other words, the KJV is not the Bible. The KJV is one of many English translations of the Bible. The Bible is the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts, which are translated into English, Spanish, Chinese, etc. The same can be said of other Bible translations, that is:

● The NIV is not the Bible, but a translation of the Bible.

● The NASB is not the Bible, but a translation of the Bible.

● The ESV is not the Bible, but a translation of the Bible.

● etc.

The 1611 KJV was not the first English translation of the Bible nor was it accurately translated, based on the TR! The worst part for the KJV readers is the many Elizabethan English words which are both misleading and incomprehensible in that translation. The KJV is a snare to one’s understanding of God’s word.

CHURCH OF CHRIST

The Church of Christ claims to be a Restoration (like Mormonism), but instead is a false religion. It has some sound doctrines, such as rejecting eternal security, but many other false religious systems do the same! The main problems with the Church of Christ center around salvation and they are: (1) their connection of water baptism to initial salvation and forgiveness of sins, and (2) their belief that only people who believe Church of Christ doctrine about baptism can be saved.

That same religious system not only teaches one must be baptized to get forgiven, which is dangerous enough, but goes much further by saying the person getting baptized must believe baptism is necessary to get forgiven. In other words, in their view, a person who has been Biblically saved and set free from his sin addictions, and who has also been water baptized afterwards, is really not forgiven or saved at all, since he wasn’t baptized to get forgiven!

From its founders, Alexander and Thomas Campbell, people in the so-called Church of Christ have challenged Christians to especially accept their heretical view of salvation to become a Christian, according to their definition! Moreover, at least some of the leaders, in times past, in the Christian Church and Disciples of Christ, have also exalted the necessity of water baptism to get forgiven.

NOTE: ANY sect under today’s heading of Christianity, which teaches that only their members can be Christian, is a false and dangerous group. This certainly applies to the Church of Christ. Please be aware of this.
