68. The Christian, in this age, has various enemies. Who/what is his chief enemy?
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Pet 5:8)
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Eph 6:11,12)
(The devil. He is not in hell now like some have been taught, but is trying to spiritually destroy people.)
69. Is the devil an aggressive and scheming foe?
Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Pet 5:8)
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Eph 6:11,12)
(Yes.)
70. Does the devil ever show any mercy?
(There is no evidence at all of this. Hence, don’t expect any from him. His goals are only to hurt and ruin as many as possible, including you and those you love the most.)
71. Does the devil get any personal benefit from his wickedness and deception of souls?
(How could he since he will, in the end, go to the lake of fire? He must, however, get some perverse pleasure out of seeing others suffer and deceived. That is how wicked he is!)
72. The devil is a crafty deceiver and liar. He is rightly known as “The Father of _________.”
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)
(Lies.)
73. What are the chief ways a Christian is advised to react and protect himself from the devil?
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Eph 6:11,12)
Avoid every kind of evil. (1 Th 5:22)
and do not give the devil a foothold. (Eph 4:27)
(Summit to God, resist the devil, put on the full armor of God, avoid evil and give the devil no opportunity to even hurt you. Some physical locations and people are much more opportune for temptation than others and should wisely be avoided.)
74. Since the devil’s dark kingdom operates through lies and deception, especially including religious deception, does it follow that he would hate the spreading of God’s word (which is truth and light)?
Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. (Luke 8:12)
(Yes. The devil hates the word of God going forth because it is destructive to his dark kingdom. He also hates faithful servants who are living holy. All of this is counterproductive to his evil desires.)
75. Was the devil cast out of heaven, with no more access to heaven, when Adam and Eve’s temptation occurred in Gen. 3?
One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.” (Job 1:6, 7)
(No, he still had access to heaven when Job was alive. It will end at the point of Rev. 12:7-10.)
76. Does the devil have fallen angels who work with him?
Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Mat 25:41)
(Yes. These may be the demons and probably are.)
77. What will be their fate?
Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Mat 25:41)
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Rev 20:10)
(Eternal fire in the lake of burning sulfur where they will be tormented forever with people who die spiritually lost. That fire was designed to torture spirit beings and is not like anything we now know.)
78. Does that mean they will ever be annihilated?
(No, the ones thrown into the lake of fire will never be annihilated, unlike what various false teachers say.)
79. How did the Lord Jesus, our perfect example, deal with the devil when he was tempted?
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” (Mat 4:3) Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Mat 4:4) Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. (Mat 4:5) “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” (Mat 4:6) Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” (Mat 4:7) Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. (Mat 4:8) “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” (Mat 4:9) Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” (Mat 4:10) Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. (Mat 4:11)
(He quoted Scripture! If Jesus quoted Scripture how much more should we. Do you know the Bible well enough to be able to quote Scripture in a time of temptation? If not, you desperately need to learn the Bible better by reading it yourself and putting it into practice.)
80. Did the devil leave immediately when Jesus first quoted Scripture to him?
(No. Jesus remained steadfastly faithful and didn’t entertain the devil’s thoughts until he left.)
81. Since Jesus actually dialoged with the devil when he was tempted, does that disprove those who say the devil only exists if you believe he exists?
(Yes. Jesus spoke to a real personality as did God in Job. The devil is real if we like it or not.)
82. What was the devil’s first lie to mankind?
“You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. (Gen 3:4)
(His lie was she would not die spiritually through disobedience to God.)
83. Is that the essence of any popular teaching in our day?
(Yes. It is the EXACT essence of eternal security, once saved always saved, the perseverance of the saints and/or the preservation of the saints. These are various names for the same demonic doctrine.)
84. Can the devil subtly give us thoughts of discouragement and anxiety and not just the obvious temptations to do wicked acts?
(YES. The devil will try to discourage and defeat all servants of God any way he can, including through discouragement. When the Israelites were discouraged they rejected the promise of God!)
85. Must we monitor the thoughts we ponder in our mind for that is how the devil leads people astray?
YES. That is why Paul took captive EVERY THOUGHT:
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. (2 Cor 10:4) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Cor 10:5)
86. Should a Christian be afraid of the devil?
(NO, we should not be afraid of the devil or even plural wicked people who want to kill us. We are instead told to fear God:
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Mat 10:28)
I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. (Luke 12:4) But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. (Luke 12:5)
87. Do Christians have spiritual weapons in Christ which are mighty, powerful and destructive to the devil’s strongholds?
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. (2 Cor 10:4)
(YES)
88. Can the devil quote Scripture?
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. (Mat 4:5) “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’” (Mat 4:6)
(YES.)
89. Did the devil tempt Jesus to test God by suggesting he could throw himself down from the temple and angels would protect him?
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” (Mat 4:7)
(YES)
90. Can a person ever get so holy he will never again be tempted by the devil?
(NO. Jesus never sinned, yet he was tempted. In this age we will all be tempted and regularly! Hence, you must remain on your guard.)
91. Will the devil one day be separated from the righteous to never cause trouble again?
And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Rev 20:10)
(YES.)
92. Does the devil know the future and that he is spiritually defeated?
Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short. (Rev 12:12)
(YES.)
93. Can the devil be behind physical illness?
... how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. (Acts 10:38)
(Yes.)
94. Satan is a master deceiver and can even appear as an angel of light:
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. (2 Cor 11:13) And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. (2 Cor 11:14) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (2 Cor 11:15)
What does that mean for him to transform himself into an angel of light?
(That means he can appear as an angel from God to better deceive. Hence, various apparitions and visions, which spread a message contrary to the Bible, are from the devil, even if miracles and healing occur there! This is VERY IMPORTANT to know.)
95. Can the devil arrange circumstances to tempt the righteous away from God and back into spiritual death?
“But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.” The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD. One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” (Job 1:11-19)
(YES. The above passage shows the devil’s ability to bring hurtful and devastating events along to spiritually destroy one’s relationship with God, if possible. In this case, Job was the most holy person on the planet and the devil was trying to get him to curse God.)
