Bible Quiz 13
(How well do you know the New Testament?)
96. The day of Pentecost in Acts 2 is important because that is when the Spirit was first given to the disciples. True or False.
After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:20-22)
(False. Disciples did receive the Holy Spirit before Pentecost.)
97. Does that mean Jesus was already glorified at the point of John 20:20-22?
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. (John 7:37-39)
(Yes.)
98. What is the context of John 20:20-22?
(After Jesus’ resurrection from the grave and before his ascension to the right hand of the Heavenly Father.)
99. Was Jesus glorified before he was resurrected from the grave?
When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4)
When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in him.” (John 13:31)
[Yes. It occurred more than once—at least when Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the grave (Jn. 11:4) and at the last supper or first communion (Jn. 13:31).]
100. What happened at Pentecost?
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
(The Holy Spirit came on the 120 disciples and they got power to witness to others about Jesus. This is proof that ALL Christians are to witness to others. Are YOU doing this?)
101. Does the Spirit of God being given on Pentecost mean the plan of salvation Jesus preached before Pentecost is now not applicable to us?
(No, absolutely not! Do NOT be deceived about this. If you are embracing a plan of salvation which doesn’t align itself to Jesus’ teachings in the gospels, you have been taught wrongly and probably dangerously.)
102. Does Jesus’ teaching on salvation before the cross (and as recorded in the gospels) parallel what the Lord’s Apostles taught after the cross?
(Yes, absolutely. That shows the plan of salvation for us today can be found in the gospels.)
103. Can you site any Scriptural comparisons to prove this?
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:18)
Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. (Luke 8:12)
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)
AND
I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. (Luke 13:3)
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Pet 3:9)
AND
Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” (Luke 7:48-50)
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Cor 15:17)
(Jn. 3:18 & Lk. 8:12 cf. Acts 16:31 /// Lk. 13:3 cf. 2 Pet. 3:9 /// Lk. 7:48-50 cf. 1 Cor. 15:17; etc.)
104. What do the above Scriptural comparisons reveal?
(Among other things this comparison helps to disprove dispensationalism. Jesus’ teachings in the gospels are relevant for us today!)
105. Are there any other Scriptures which clearly disprove dispensationalism?
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. (Col 3:16)
(Col. 3:16 shows all of Jesus’ teachings, as found in the gospels, were to be used for teaching and admonishing among the churches in Paul’s day. Therefore, Jesus’ teaching is part of grace teaching.)
