Bible Quiz 15

(How well do you know the New Testament?)

116. The term world is frequently used in Scripture. Do you know what it refers to in the following passage?

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. (John 15:18,19)

(It refers to unredeemed mankind. The world there can both love and hate. Hence, it refers to people as described—people who hated Jesus and hate Christians. That includes in religious unsaved—past and present.)

117. Who were the primary haters/persecutors of the Lord Jesus, who also intensely wanted him dead even to the point of manipulating people/circumstances to condemn the Lord to death?

But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. (Mat 12:14)

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him. (Mat 26:3,4)

The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching. (Mark 11:18)

(The religious leaders of Jesus’ day were the Lord’s worst enemies! In other words, the religious lost. They are included in the term world.)

118. What is the truth of God regarding one who chooses to be a friend of the world?

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4)

(Such a person becomes an enemy of God. To become an enemy of God assumes that same person was not an enemy of God before that occurred, as all unsaved people are (Rom. 5:10). That would have to make him a Christian before he became a friend of the world.)

119. How serious is it to be an enemy of God?

... raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. (Heb 10:27)

(Raging fire will consume the enemies of God—those who are friends of this world and all unsaved people in general.)

120. What does a comparison of James 4:4 and Heb. 10:27 reveal?

(One can lose his salvation (die spiritually) by becoming a friend of this world. There is no eternal security. The sooner you realize this the better it will be for you spiritually and your circle of influence.)

121. What does that imply about the ecumenical movement?

(That is another serious judgment against it, since the ecumenical movement is filled with the world—religious unsaved enemies/persecutors of Biblical Christians.)

122. What did Jesus teach about the infinite value of a SOUL?

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark 8:36,37)

(He taught man’s SOUL is more valuable that the entire world—gold, platinum, diamonds, oil, land, worldly success, etc. Your SOUL is your most valuable possession, regardless how much wealth you have or will ever get. Don’t take a chance with it!)

123. How does that differ from this world’s value system?

(The world places the ultimate value on temporal things—money, material possessions, physical health, physical life, comfort, popularity, people acceptance, appearance, reputation, personal ambitions, careers, etc.)

124. To be a Christian, must one be, at the very least, willing to forsake all of that and be faithful to God? Will that kind of commitment to Jesus, which brings salvation, result in hatred?

Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:33)

Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (Mat 10:37-39)

In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, (2 Tim 3:12)

We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (1 John 2:3,4)

(YES. That commitment is synonymous with believing on Jesus. Many, therefore, who claim to believe on Jesus are really not! They having something much less than what is required to have a present tense salvation.)
