Bible Quiz 16
(How well do you know the New Testament?)
125. Under New Testament grace, God keeps us and the Christian does NOT keep himself. True or False.
Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, (Luke 12:35)
Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. (1 John 5:21)
...do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. (1 Tim 5:22)
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27)
(False. Just the Scriptures cited above show that Christians are responsible to keep their spiritual lamps burning and keep themselves from sin. All of that is true grace teaching.)
126. Under New Testament grace, God holds us and the Christian does NOT hold himself. True or False.
Test everything. Hold on to the good. (1 Th 5:21)
But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast. (Heb 3:6)
Only hold on to what you have until I come. (Rev 2:25)
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. (Rev 3:11)
(False. Christians are again shown to be responsible to hold on to certain things. NOTE: Jesus himself commanded Christians to do that in Rev. 2:25; 3:11. If you believe the eternal security teachers you can NOT obey Jesus there!)
127. Salvation is a done deal once a person gets born again. There is nothing he can do to maintain it or to jeopardize it. True or False.
...do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. (1 Tim 5:22)
What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Cor 6:16-18)
Avoid every kind of evil. (1 Th 5:22)
(False. After initial salvation, the Christian has to decide to obey or disobey during various testings which come. It is NOT Biblical to think once a person has been saved he will definitely go to heaven after death. Jesus taught those already saved that they would have to endure to the end for salvation’s sake (Mt. 10:22). It is Biblical to know, you can still go to hell, as disturbing as that is.)
128. Many people will go to hell because they are not putting forth enough effort to actually get into God’s kingdom. True or False.
Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” He said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.” (Luke 13:23,24)
(True. Eternal security will destroy putting forth the effort Jesus referred to there which is needed to enter the narrow door.)
129. Under New Testament grace, we SAVE OURSELVES. True or False.
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” (Acts 2:40)
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. (1 Pet 1:22)
(True. We save ourselves by looking to Jesus for him to save us. We save ourselves by coming to Jesus for eternal life. After coming to him, we have to keep ourselves from idols, etc. The eternal security proponents place full responsibility on God for us to come to initial salvation as well as final salvation, which is both unscriptural and deadly.)
130. We can better understand Biblical grace by considering the way grace is used in the natural to describe getting unmerited favor. For example, If one doesn’t pay his electric bill on time there is a “grace” period left before the electricity is shut off. Grace is unmerited favor and enables us to relax when disobedient because God loves us and assures our future entrance into his kingdom. True or False.
It [grace] teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, (Titus 2:12)
(False. To reason from the natural to the spiritual will almost always have errors connected with it. Biblical grace is best shown in Titus 2:12. It is NOT unmerited favor, but instead favor. We have God’s favor as long as we meet the conditions for it. Noah found grace in God’s eyes (Gen. 6:8), but beforehand he was righteously obedient and unlike the rest of the people in his day. Any illustration or comparison which tends to allow for tolerance or disobedience to God is not grace even though it might be taught under that name. Spiritual death is very real and occurs now under grace, Rom. 8:13; Lk. 15:24,32; James 1:14-16; 5:19,20; etc.)
131. Is there anything in 1 Peter which helps to show what true grace is?
With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. (1 Pet 5:12)
(Yes, the entire epistle itself describes the true grace of God. That epistle has MANY do’s and don’ts. Grace is not what it has been commonly taught as. Please read it for yourself.)
132. The gospel of grace, which Paul preached, has no conditions to it. Salvation starts and ends with God and man plays no role at all in any part of it. True or False.
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. (1 Cor 15:2)
(False. There are MANY conditions connected with salvation. In fact, the very gospel itself shows this. The Christian is responsible to hold firmly to the real gospel or his saving faith will be in vain.)
