11. Why does the world hate Christians?
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. (John 15:19)
(Christians don’t belong to the world and the world knows it. Are you hated by the world? If not, you must be part of the world, which is not good!)
12. Why did Cain (a type of the world) murder his brother Abel (a righteous man)?
Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. (1 John 3:12,13)
(Because Abel’s actions were righteous and his were evil. We must not be surprised that the world will hate us just because we do righteous acts!)
13. Did Jesus actually tell his followers that people would kill them? If so, then how were they to respond to those killers?
I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. (Luke 12:4,5)
(Yes! They were to fear God, not the killers, because ONLY GOD has the power to throw them into hell. **Jesus believed his followers could yet be thrown into hell. Hence, there is no eternal security.)
14. Jesus was painfully clear that his followers would be hated, not loved, by the world. Is enduring that hatred by the world to the end of our lives a salvation issue or something less?
All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Mat 10:22)
(In order for Christians to enter God’s kingdom after death they will have to endure hatred from the world to the very end in order to be saved. This is the destructive to eternal security.)
15. While being hated is the norm for Christians, how should the persecuted saint view such hatred?
Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets. (Luke 6:22,23)
(We should realize such is a sign that we are blessed. We also have a great reward in heaven over such evil and unjust treatment and are told to rejoice.)
