16. What was the special rebuke Jesus pronounced for the cities of Korazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum?
“Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” (Mat 11:21-24)
(Their judgment will be more unbearable than those notoriously wicked cites, mentioned in the Old Testament, which were destroyed by God.)
17. WHY will Korazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum judgments be more severe?
(Because the miracles Jesus performed there should have resulted in them repenting, but didn’t. Accountability, based upon opportunity, is Biblical. Some have much more spiritual opportunity than others. That is how it was with those three cities Jesus condemned for not repenting. His will was for the unrepentant there to repent! Their personal choice to reject God’s truth would lead to their own damnation.)
18. What was the big issue with those cities (Korazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum)?
(They didn’t repent. God wants all people to repent, even the unsaved.)
19. Have some people perished, who would NOT have perished, if given more spiritual privilege, such as seeing God’s miracles?
(Yes. That was clearly the case for those living in Tyre, Sidon and Sodom when they were destroyed!)
20. What ramifications does that fact/truth have on Calvinism?
(That spiritual truth destroys the Calvinistic doctrine of double predestination, that is, some are destined to be saved or damned with no choice [or free will] on man’s part. Jesus taught wicked people of the past would have “repented” had they been given the chance to see the same miracles others saw. That is a fact, as disturbing as it may be and Calvinism is a dangerous false theology.)
