26. Regarding the end of this age, did Jesus teach a great revival with massive amounts of people getting saved before his return or the opposite with religious deception and sin becoming worse?
Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.” (Mat 24:4,5)
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Mat 24:7-13)
At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’or, ‘There he is!’do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. (Mat 24:23-27)
(There will be no revival like some think. Deception and sin will be even more prevalent at the end of this age.)
27. In the days of the ministries of John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus, did anyone ever say any derogatory and false things about either?
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and ‘sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her actions. (Mat 11:18,19)
(Yes, absolutely. Hence, just because someone maligns another doesn’t mean those criticisms are accurate and just. The one/s spreading the false report may just have some wicked motive to do such.)
28. If you are like many, you have probably observed that people with a doctorate like to assume that they are wise and learned because they have such a degree. Did Jesus say such could be a hindrance to understanding certain spiritual truths, which the Father reveals?
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.” (Mat 11:25,26)
(Yes. God hides certain truths from the so-called wise and learned and reveals those same truths to those who are like little children. Just having any religious degree or title is meaningless, as far as being a teacher of truth. The actual teaching in question must be examined in context and by comparing it to other verses on the same subject.)
29. When Jesus preached salvation, did he ever say man had any role in any of it?
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Mat 11:28-30)
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. (John 15:4-6)
Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death. (Rev 2:10,11)
(YES, man has salvation responsibility under grace. It is disobedience to go to Mary or some other person first in an effort to afterwards get to Jesus. NOTE: Jesus pointed people to himself for salvation. The Father, the Holy Spirit and the Lord’s disciples also pointed people to the Lord Jesus for salvation—not to themselves or another.)
30. When the Apostles referred to salvation, did they ever say man had any role in any of it?
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” (Acts 2:40)
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. (1 Pet 1:22)
Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. (1 Tim 4:16)
(Yes, and that refutes the Calvinistic view of total depravity. Man has a choice to turn from his sins, which are dragging him/her to hell and submit to the Lord Jesus or to refuse. All of this is under grace. Such is not legalism or heresy. If it was, then such Apostles of Jesus were spreading legalism and other false teachings back then.)
