Much of today’s theology would state that a
Christian should not be conscious of sin. Instead, he
should walk in an awareness of righteousness. By
teaching against this same precious truth the Bible
magnifies, the misinformed are not striving against
sin, as they need to for spiritual survival. This is
especially the case for those who also wrongly think
God can’t see their sin anyway and/or that their
future sins are already forgiven before they are
committed. A small percentage of the many Scriptures that
show a Christian, saved by grace, is to be sin
conscious are as follows: 1 Cor 5:6,7 Your boasting is not
good. Don’t you know that a little yeast
works through the whole batch of
dough? Get rid of the old yeast that you
may be a new batch without yeast—as
you really are. Mat 6:12-15 Forgive us our debts, as
we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from the evil one. For if
you forgive men when they sin
against you, your heavenly Father
will also forgive you. But if you do
not forgive men their sins, your
Father will not forgive your sins. Eph 4:31,32 Get rid of all bitterness,
rage and anger, brawling and
slander, along with every form of
malice. Be kind and compassionate
to one another, forgiving each other,
just as in Christ God forgave you. 1 Cor 10:13,14 No temptation has
seized you except what is common to
man. And God is faithful; he will not let
you be tempted beyond what you can
bear. But when you are tempted, he
will also provide a way out so that
you can stand up under it. Therefore,
my dear friends, flee from idolatry. Col 3:8,9 But now you must rid
yourselves of all such things as
these: anger, rage, malice, slander,
and filthy language from your lips. Do
not lie to each other, since you have
taken off your old self with its
practices James 1:21,22 Therefore, get rid of all
moral filth and the evil that is so
prevalent and humbly accept the
word planted in you, which can save
you. Do not merely listen to the word,
and so deceive yourselves. Do what it
says. 1 Pet 2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of
all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy,
envy, and slander of every kind. Gal 5:19-21 The acts of the sinful nature
are obvious: sexual immorality,
impurity and debauchery; idolatry
and witchcraft; hatred, discord,
jealousy, fits of rage, selfish
ambition, dissensions, factions and
envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the
like. I warn you, as I did before, that
those who live like this will not
inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Pet 2:11,12 Dear friends, I urge you,
as aliens and strangers in the world, to
abstain from sinful desires, which
war against your soul. Live such good
lives among the pagans that, though
they accuse you of doing wrong, they
may see your good deeds and glorify
God on the day he visits us. 1 Pet 3:11,12 He must turn from evil
and do good; he must seek peace and
pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are
on the righteous and his ears are
attentive to their prayer, but the face of
the Lord is against those who do evil. 1 Pet 5:8,9 Be self-controlled and
alert. Your enemy the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion looking for
someone to devour. Resist him,
standing firm in the faith, because you
know that your brothers throughout the
world are undergoing the same kind of
sufferings. 2 Pet 1:5-10 For this very reason, make
every effort to add to your faith
goodness; and to goodness,
knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,
perseverance; and to perseverance,
godliness; and to godliness,
brotherly kindness; and to brotherly
kindness, love. For if you possess
these qualities in increasing measure,
they will keep you from being ineffective
and unproductive in your knowledge of
our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone
does not have them, he is nearsighted
and blind, and has forgotten that he has
been cleansed from his past sins.
Therefore, my brothers, be all the more
eager to make your calling and election
sure. For if you do these things, you will
never fall, 1 Cor 5:11,12 But now I am writing you
that you must not associate with anyone
who calls himself a brother but is
sexually immoral or greedy, an
idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or
a swindler. With such a man do not
even eat. What business is it of mine to
judge those outside the church? Are you
not to judge those inside? Jude 7 In a similar way, Sodom and
Gomorrah and the surrounding towns
gave themselves up to sexual
immorality and perversion. They
serve as an example of those who
suffer the punishment of eternal fire. Rev 2:4,5 Yet I hold this against you:
You have forsaken your first love.
Remember the height from which you
have fallen! Repent and do the things
you did at first. If you do not repent, I
will come to you and remove your
lampstand from its place. Rev 2:10 Do not be afraid of what you
are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil
will put some of you in prison to test
you, and you will suffer persecution for
ten days. Be faithful, even to the point
of death, and I will give you the
crown of life. Rev 3:3,4 Remember, therefore, what
you have received and heard; obey it,
and repent. But if you do not wake up, I
will come like a thief, and you will not
know at what time I will come to you.
Yet you have a few people in Sardis
who have not soiled their clothes.
They will walk with me, dressed in white,
for they are worthy. Mark 7:20-23 He went on: “What
comes out of a man is what makes him
‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s
hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery,
greed, malice, deceit, lewdness,
envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All
these evils come from inside and
make a man ‘unclean.’” Rev 21:8 But the cowardly, the
unbelieving, the vile, the murderers,
the sexually immoral, those who
practice magic arts, the idolaters and
all liars—their place will be in the
fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the
second death. Rev 22:15 Outside are the dogs, those
who practice magic arts, the sexually
immoral, the murderers, the idolaters
and everyone who loves and
practices falsehood. Eph 5:5-7 For of this you can be sure:
No immoral, impure or greedy
person—such a man is an
idolater—has any inheritance in the
kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no
one deceive you with empty words, for
because of such things God’s wrath
comes on those who are disobedient.
Therefore do not be partners with them. Rom 6:16 Don’t you know that when
you offer yourselves to someone to
obey him as slaves, you are slaves to
the one whom you obey—whether you
are slaves to sin, which leads to death,
or to obedience, which leads to
righteousness? Rom 6:22,23 But now that you have
been set free from sin and have
become slaves to God, the benefit you
reap leads to holiness, and the result is
eternal life. For the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord. Mat 18:6-9 But if anyone causes one of
these little ones who believe in me to
sin, it would be better for him to have a
large millstone hung around his neck
and to be drowned in the depths of the
sea. Woe to the world because of the
things that cause people to sin! Such
things must come, but woe to the man
through whom they come! If your
hand or your foot causes you to sin cut
it off and throw it away. It is better for
you to enter life maimed or crippled than
to have two hands or two feet and be
thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye
causes you to sin, gouge it out and
throw it away. It is better for you to enter
life with one eye than to have two eyes
and be thrown into the fire of hell. Mat 13:41,42 The Son of Man will send
out his angels, and they will weed out of
his kingdom everything that causes
sin and all who do evil. They will throw
them into the fiery furnace, where there
will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Luke 17:1-3 Jesus said to his disciples:
“Things that cause people to sin are
bound to come, but woe to that person
through whom they come. It would be
better for him to be thrown into the sea
with a millstone tied around his neck
than for him to cause one of these little
ones to sin. So watch yourselves.” Eph 4:26,27 “In your anger do not sin”:
Do not let the sun go down while you
are still angry, and do not give the
devil a foothold. 1 Tim 5:22 . . . do not share in the sins
of others. Keep yourself pure. 1 John 5:21 Dear children, keep
yourselves from idols. Mat 5:28,29 But I tell you that anyone
who looks at a woman lustfully has
already committed adultery with her in
his heart. If your right eye causes you to
sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is
better for you to lose one part of your
body than for your whole body to be
thrown into hell.

A Christian is to be conscious of sin and avoid it at every turn. You cannot sin and get away with it. No one ever has! The Christian life is a struggle against sin (Heb. 12:4). GOD BLESS YOU.
