Few Christians have never heard of the Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs), but very few know what they say the gospel is. To the JWs the gospel is that the kingdom was established in the heavenlies in 1914!
Let the honest-hearted person compare the kind of preaching of the gospel of the Kingdom done by the religious systems of Christendom during all the centuries with that done by Jehovah’s Witnesses since the end of World War I in 1918. They are not one and the same kind. That of Jehovah’s Witnesses is really “gospel,” or “good news,” as of God’s heavenly kingdom that was established by the enthronement of his Son Jesus Christ at the end of the Gentile Times in 1914. (The Watchtower 5/1/81, p.17, emphasis mine)
Are you shocked? That is, in part, what the JWs want to convert us over to! One of the ways to help a JW out of such a delusion is to ask the following two simple questions:
● (1) Did Paul or any of the early disciples ever preach the gospel of the kingdom? The answer is a definite yes.
● (2) Did they ever preach the kingdom was established in the heavenlies in 1914? The answer is a definite no.
■Your comment should then be: Why are you preaching a different gospel, especially since you will be condemned just for that (Gal. 1:8,9)? God’s gospel is detailed in 1 Cor. 15:1-4 and Acts 20:21.
The Mormon Perverse
Eternal Life
Eternal life to a Mormon is much different than for a Christian. Here is what a Mormon thinks:
Here, then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be gods yourselves, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all gods have done before you, namely, by going from one small degree to another, and from a small capacity to a great one; from grace to grace, exaltation to exaltation, until you attain to the resurrection of the dead, and are able to dwell in everlasting burnings, and to sit in glory, as do those who sit enthroned in everlasting power.... (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, 1966, p. 321, italics theirs, bold emphasis mine)
The truth is, eternal life is both the life of God and what a person gets this side of the grave when he truly has Christ, who is eternal life:
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:11-13)
The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. (1 John 1:2)
