Spiritual Nuggets

To Ponder For 03-23-08

31. It is very important to remember that God feeds the birds (Mt. 6:26), but those same birds search for food expecting to find some, then work to get it so they can eat.

32. In the early church, elders in the local congregations were appointed (Titus 1:5) and not voted in by the majority as commonly done today. If some spiritually, unqualified person who wants to be an elder has a large family and/or many friends their votes to get him in office could seriously hurt the entire congregation. Certainly, this is part of the problem in the congregations of our today.

33. In the Parable of the Talents (Mt. 25:14-30), it was the one with the least amount of talents (only one), who neglected his responsibilities to bring forth gain and became lost. He was in the greatest spiritual danger.

34. In 1 Samuel 3, we notice that Samuel, who was a true prophet of God, heard the audible voice of God in such a way that it seemed to be a person calling him in the natural, but Eli, who was nearby, didn’t hear anything. Many in our day think they are prophets but don’t claim to hear God’s audible voice. (True prophets of God also have visions and dreams but this doesn’t mean all people who have visions and dreams are true prophets.)

35. The 10 spies who brought back a “bad report” about “the land flowing with milk and honey” had a special judgment placed upon them. They were struck down and died of a plague. Those same 10 men were “responsible” and “made the whole community grumble against him (the LORD) by spreading a bad report about it.” See Numbers 14:36,37.

A teacher’s influence can be similar. Our words and especially our teachings are very influential. Also a teacher’s judgment will be more strict (James 3:1).
