Pope John Paul II, His
Holiness or Heretic?
but only without additions, alterations or omissions of any kind,
including the ministry name and address at the end.]
In harmony with our apostate day there are different influential so-called Bible teachers describing the deceased Pope John Paul II in such a way that the uninformed might think he was a great Christian leader. Many Catholics are now praying to John Paul and the Roman Catholic Church is considering exalting him to saint. From Billy Graham to Pat Robertson to Charles Colson to Jack Van Impe and others the public has been subjected to untruths over the years by non-Catholics that have disturbed Christians. Perhaps you have read or heard some of the following yourself:
Charles Colson:
I had the honor of meeting his Holiness, and I have actively been a part of a collaborative fellowship called Evangelicals and Catholics Together.
Pat Robertson:
I am deeply grieved as a great man passes from this world to his much deserved eternal reward. John Paul II has been the most beloved religious leader of our age—far surpassing in popular admiration the leader of any faith.
From the above statement Pat Robertson seems to imply the Pope went to heaven, but it isn’t crystal clear. This uncertainty, however, is totally removed by world famous Billy Graham who answered a question from Larry King about the Pope:
King: There is no question in your mind that he is with God now?
Billy Graham: Oh, no. There may be a question about my own, but I don’t think Cardinal Wojtyla, or the Pope—I think he’s with the Lord, because he believed. He believed in the Cross. That was his focus throughout his ministry, the Cross, no matter if you were talking to him from personal issue or an ethical problem, he felt that there was the answer to all of our problems, the cross and the resurrection. And he was a strong believer.
Billy Graham is not sure of his own salvation, but is sure about the Pope’s. Later in the same interview with King, Graham stated:
And then my son, Franklin, will be going to the enthronement of the new Pope.
Getting back to 700 Club’s Pat Robertson, we read:
I pray for the Cardinals of the Catholic Church that they might have God-given wisdom in selecting the successor to this great man. Their task will not be easy, but with God all things are possible.
Billy Graham, who said the pope was a strong believer, stopped short of informing the audience of what or who the Pope was a strong believer in! Sadly, unlike the New Testament, which exalts Jesus as the object of a Christian’s faith, trust, hope, etc., the Pope focused in upon Mary. In fact, on his robe he wore his personal motto: Mary I’m all yours.
The Pope has taught many things about Mary and it may interest some to read of some of the specifics, such as her supposed role in being co-redeemer with Jesus. If you are interested, click here.
