God's Love For Us Is
Totally Unlike Human Love

God's Love Will Not Keep Us Out Of Hell

As strange as it may sound, God's love for us has become a major stumbling block for many! WHY? Because God's love has been mistaught as human love, but much more protective. To many church folk, if God loves us he will NEVER send us to Hell! We can't justly compare human finite love with God's love for us, which considers eternity and his justice and righteousness. For many the one and only love of God verse they know is Romans 8:38,39:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That verse has been overused but distorted to mean that even the most heinous sins will not separate us from God's love and therefore, even in horrible vile sins Christians are protected from eternal fire! (Please note that "sin" is not found in the Romans 8:38,39 listing.) Consequently, many people who are once saved always saved advocates are citing a distorted view of Romans 8:38,39, and God's love for us, to assure salvation, even in sins that lead to death! Such is a dangerous doctrinal myth and nothing better.

Three Little-Known God's Love For Us Scriptures

I will forsake my house, abandon my inheritance; I will give the one I love into the hands of her enemies. My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest. She roars at me; therefore I hate her. (Jer 12:7,8)
So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. (Rev 3:16,19)
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." (Mark 10:21)

God's Love For The Sheep and Goats

Romans 8:38,39 Again

Getting back to Rom. 8:38,39, it doesn't say nothing will separate us from God's LIFE, but instead God's LOVE. Again, unsaved people are loved by God, but they are also separated from his LIFE (Eph. 4:18). Spiritual life is only found in Jesus, but that same LIFE in Christ can be terminated after initial salvation. Sin does separate from God (Isa. 59:2).

In conclusion, God's love for us is NOT like human love. To try to present God's love as a protective cover from an almighty and all-knowing God, even if one is in unrepentant sin because of the cross, grace, Jesus' blood, etc. is a horrible distortion and will prove fatal to all who are so deceived. God's love for us, among other things, won't prevent him from spewing us from the body of Christ over lukewarmness or disowning us if we first disown him (Mt. 10:33)!
