God's Love Will Not Keep Us Out Of Hell

As strange as it may sound, Godís love for us has become a major stumbling block for many! WHY? Because God's love has been mistaught as human love, but much more protective. To many church folk, if God loves us he will NEVER send us to Hell! God's love for us We canít justly compare human finite love with Godís love for us, which considers eternity and his justice and righteousness. For many the one and only love of God verse they know is Romans 8:38,39:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That verse has been overused but distorted to mean that even the most heinous sins will not separate us from Godís love and therefore, even in horrible vile sins Christians are protected from eternal fire! (Please note that "sin" is not found in the Romans 8:38,39 listing.) Consequently, many people who are once saved always saved advocates are citing a distorted view of Romans 8:38,39, and Godís love for us, to assure salvation, even in sins that lead to death! Such is a dangerous doctrinal myth and nothing better.

Three Little-Known Godís Love For Us Scriptures

I will forsake my house, abandon my inheritance; I will give the one I love into the hands of her enemies. My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest. She roars at me; therefore I hate her. (Jer 12:7,8)
So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. (Rev 3:16,19)
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." (Mark 10:21)

Godís Love For Us Scriptures Analyzed

  • In Jer. 12:7,8, God "LOVED" Israel yet will forsake and abandon them. He will give them to their enemies! WHY? It was because of their sins! God also HATED Israel, while he likewise loved them! Because God is infinite he can do that. Those truths reveal Godís love for us without any doctrinal spin to promote salvation security in wickedness.
  • In Rev. 3:16, Jesus (after his death on the cross) threatened that he was about to spit the lukewarm out of his mouth (body)! Verse 19 shows he LOVED them, but would still do that to them! To be expelled out of Christís body is to no longer have salvation and to be on the road to hell again. Jesus would do that to those he "loved," because they were lukewarm. He told them to repent. Those Jesus loves he rebukes and disciplines (Rev. 3:19)! To understand Jesusí love should cause us to tremble, for he will treat us the same way as the lukewarm there!
  • Mark 10:21 is Jesus loving (agape) an UNSAVED man who refuses to meet the requirements for eternal life and that man walks away without eternal life, the very thing he came running to Jesus to get (Mk. 10:17)! Because that man refused to do as Jesus said, Godís love for him allowed him to continue down the road to hell, dead in his sins and lost!

God's Love For The Sheep and Goats

Romans 8:38,39 Again

God's love, God's justice, God's righteousnessGetting back to Rom. 8:38,39, it doesnít say nothing will separate us from Godís LIFE, but instead Godís LOVE. Again, unsaved people are loved by God, but they are also separated from his LIFE (Eph. 4:18). Spiritual life is only found in Jesus, but that same LIFE in Christ can be terminated after initial salvation. Sin does separate from God (Isa. 59:2).

In conclusion, Godís love for us is NOT like human love. To try to present Godís love as a protective cover from an almighty and all-knowing God, even if one is in unrepentant sin because of the cross, grace, Jesusí blood, etc. is a horrible distortion and will prove fatal to all who are so deceived. Godís love for us, among other things, won't prevent him from spewing us from the body of Christ over lukewarmness or disowning us if we first disown him (Mt. 10:33)!
