The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures of the Jehovah's Witnesses (NWT) is a very important piece of evidence to examine when considering the self-exalting unique claims of the Watchtower Society. Note some of the declarations the Watchtower Society, which has produced this Jehovah's Witnesses Bible, made about itself:
The New World Translation Examined and EXPOSEDIf we are to walk in the light of truth we must recognize not only Jehovah God as our Father but his organization as our mother.(1)Jehovah's organization is theocratic. That means that it is ruled by the direct administration of God ....(2)We all need help to understand the Bible, and we cannot find the Scriptural guidance we need outside the "faithful and discreet slave" organization.(3)Moreover, the Watchtower Society has also stated that their own publication The Watchtower is God's "means of communication to his people on earth."(5)
Furthermore, not only do we find that people cannot see the Divine Plan in studying the Bible by itself, but we see, also, that if anyone lays the SCRIPTURE STUDIES aside, even after he has used them, after he has become familiar with them, after he has read them for ten years -- if he then lays them aside and ignores them and goes to the Bible alone, though he has understood his Bible for ten years, our experience shoWatchtower Society that within two years he goes into darkness. On the other hand, if he had merely read the SCRIPTURE STUDIES with the references, and had not read a page of the Bible, as such, he would be in the light at the end of the two years, because he would have the light of the Scriptures.(4)
SHOCKING! Here is PROOF That Yahweh Is "MORE CORRECT" Than Jehovah
Such remarkable claims are indirectly examined when one inspects the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, the fruit of the world headquarters of the Jehovah's Witnesses, since they have produced it, market it and assert that it is the most reliable of all translations. The following shoWatchtower Society how they esteem their own Kingdom Interlinear Translation (KIT):The word-for-word Greek interlinear translation and the New World Translation are arranged parallel on the page, so that comparisons can be made between the two readings and the accuracy of any modern translation can be determined.(6)It is the purpose of this short treatise to test this and other claims about out the New World Translation in obedience to 1 Thess 5:21, remembering all the while that a false prophet is known by his fruit (Mt. 7:15) and will deceive many (Mt. 24:11). Furthermore, since the total number of New World Translation Bibles in print, as of 1984, was an incredible 39,500,000(7), the following examination is critically important for the sake of all those who are reading the Jehovah's Witnesses Bible.
When one follows the above guidelines of the Watchtower Society for John 14:14, the evidence reveals that the New World Translation is not accurately translated. The exact Greek word-for-word rendering in the Kingdom Interlineat Translation for that verse is:
John 14:14 and Word Omissions in The New World Translationif ever anything YOU should ask me in the name of me this I shall do.According to that Greek text, the Lord Jesus taught his disciples to pray to himself and he (Jesus) shall do it. In contrast to the Greek, the New World Translation inaccurately reads:If YOU ask anything in my name, I will do it.NOTE: Though it is clear that the Lord Jesus taught his disciples that they could pray to himself, this truth is concealed in the New World Translation by omitting the word me. Secondly, first-century Christians, who were in the truth, practiced praying to Jesus:While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep (Acts 7:59,60).According to Acts 6:3, Stephen was full of the Spirit and wisdom and he prayed TO Jesus.
One feature of the New World Translation is the usage of brackets:
Col. 1:16,17 and Uninspired New World Translation Word InsertionsBRACKETS: In the English readings (interlinear and main) brackets occur. These denote that the word or words enclosed have been inserted by the translator to make some application that is shown by the Greek word or to show something that is understood along with the Greek word because of its grammatical form.(8)Their use of brackets is especially apparent at Col. 1:16,17 where the word other is inserted into those two verses four times. The New World Translation renders those verses as follows:Because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him. Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist. The reader should be aware that neither of the reasons cited why the New World Translation translating committee used brackets are applicable in Col. 1:16,17! Those two reasons, as previously stated are: (1) to make some application that is shown by the Greek word or (2) to show something that is understood along with the Greek word because of its grammatical form.
The truth is by inserting the word other in that passage, the New World Translation has distorted its meaning. Since they teach that Jesus is a created being and Col. 1:16 opposes this by stating that Jesus created all things, then basic logic would declare that Jesus can't be part of his own creation. By inserting the non-inspired word other, which does not appear in the Greek in verses 16 and 17, the meaning is changed, allowing for their erroneous interpretation. Again, the reader should note: The word other does not appear in the Greek text in those two verses! If the Holy Spirit had wanted the inspired writer of that Scripture to use the word other, he easily could have done so as in Gal 1:8,9,19; 2:13; 4:22; 5:17; etc. To insert this word other in Col. 1:16,17 doesn't clarify Scripture, but instead changes the meaning to a distortion that God never intended.
When we come to Phil. 2:9, the New World Translation does not have brackets around the inserted word other, in violation to their own guidelines, even though it is clearly not in the Greek text and was added by the translators. That verse as rendered in the New World Translation as found in the KIT (1969 edition) is:
Phil. 2:9 and No Brackets in The New World Translation! For this very reason also God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name.In contrast, the Greek in the KIT says:... the name the over every name. Why did the Watchtower Society unjustly insert the word other in that verse? For anyone who knows the doctrines of the Jehovah's Witnesses, the answer is obvious. In their minds, apart from Scripture to back it up, they think Jesus is Michael the archangel and not deity. Hence, a created being could never have a name above the eternal God, especially when Psa. 83:18 and 148:13 declare in the New World Translation:That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.Consequently, the word otheris inserted in Phil. 2:9, which distorts the meaning of that verse, taking glory away from the Lord Jesus, as was done in Col. 1:16,17.
Let them praise the name of Jehovah, for his name alone is unreachably high.
Another claim of the Watchtower Society about their New World Translation (the Jehovah's Witnesses Bible) is that it is pure and consistent:
Is The New World Translation Pure and Consistent as Claimed? In presenting this translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures our confidence has been in the help of the great Author of The Book. Our primary desire has been to seek, not the approval of men, but that of God, by rendering the truth of his inspired Word as purely and as consistently as our consecrated powers make possible.(9)But when we check the Greek word translated worship when used for Jesus, it is rendered obeisance, but worship at other times! As previously shown, we see an attack on the identity of the Lord. Where exactly did the New World Translation inconsistently translate the Greek word meaning worship?
In Mt. 2:11; 14:33; 28:9; 28:17 the Greek word is translated obeisance because it refers to the Lord Jesus, but when the same exact Greek word is used at Rev. 5:14; 7:11; 11:16; 19:4; 20:4 and Jn. 4:20 it is rendered worshiped because it doesn't refer to Jesus.
The same inconsistency is shown at Jn. 9:38 and Mk.5:6. It is translated obeisance when referring to Jesus, but worship at Heb. 11:21 when it doesn't refer to Jesus.
Moreover, the same Greek word is found at Mt. 2:2; Rev. 22:8 and Rev. 19:10. At Mt. 2:2, when Jesus is the recipient, obeisance is again used, but in the other two Scriptures, when the Lord is not the recipient, worship is found! Jesus was worshiped in Scripture by Christians, but the Jehovah's Witnesses aren't allowed to worship him!
The New World Translation also wrongly translates John 8:58! Their strange rendering for this verse is:
The John 8:58 New World Translation DistortionJesus said to them: "most truly I say to YOU, Before Abraham came into existence, I have been."The Greek word-for-word rendering states I am instead of I have been. Furthermore, the Greek words from which this translation comes is supposed to be:properly rendered in the perfect tense(10)But in other sources and at other times, the Watchtower Society has contradicted their own statement about that by stating something different:properly translated by the perfect indicative(11)properly rendered in the perfect indefinite tense(12)The truth is the Greek tense for EIMI (am) as found in Jn. 8:58 is present indicative active. Hence, the Watchtower Society is wrong again. Furthermore, at this point it should be clear that the New World Translation has not been true to their own claims:We offer no paraphrase of the Scriptures. Our endeavor all through has been to give as literal a translation as possible ....(13)If the New World Translation was a literal translation like they claim, then Jn. 8:58 would not be rendered I have been, but instead I am like the Greek and many reputable translations read! But if that was done, then Jn. 8:58 would be too closely associated with Exo. 3:14, which the Watchtower Society doesn't want. (In Exo. 3:14, God identifies Himself as I am.)
John 1:1 in the vast majority of Bibles reveal the deity of Christ:(14)
John 1:1the Word was God (NKJV).In contrast, the New World Translation renders John 1:1 in a most unusual way to protect the doctrines of the Jehovah's Witnesses:
the Word was God (NIV).
the Word was God (KJV).In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.The footnote, from this verse, in the KIT reads:"A God." In Contrast with "the God."
The Watchtower Society has appealed to a little-known Bible translation by Johannes Greber, a former Catholic priest, for support of their a god rendering of John 1:1 in the New World Translation. Greber's translation came about through contact with the spirit world. In fact, his wife, who was a spirit medium, helped him with this translation:
Johannes GreberAt times he [Greber] was given the correct answers in large illuminated letter and words passing before his eyes. Other times he was given the correct answers during prayer meetings. His wife, a medium of God's Spiritworld was often instrumental in conveying the correct answer from God's Messengers to Pastor Greber.(15)Strange as it may sound the Watchtower Society denounced Greber's involvement in Spiritism and his translation as coming from demons in their Feb. 15, 1956 The Watchtower, p. 111. But for many years afterward the Watchtower Society still continued to cite his demon-produced translation for support(16). So knowingly, the Watchtower Society appealed to a Bible translation many times, which came from demons, for support of their own New World Translation. What the demons were communicating through Greber's translation is still being vastly spread today by the New World Translation.
The Watchtower Society tries to distinguish between a god and the God, making only Jehovah the God. This concept, however, disintegrates at John 20:28. The New World Translation reads:
My Lord and my GodIn answer Thomas said to him: "My Lord and my God!"The actual word-for-word rendering of the Greek, which can be easily verified in the KIT, is substantially different:Answered Thomas and he said to him The Lord of me and the God of me!Note: the definite article the before God with a capital "G." If only Jehovah is the God, as the Watchtower Society teaches, then Jesus is Jehovah, according to their own Greek Bible footnote! By the way, the Father is also called the Lord in Rev. 4:11, as Jesus is in John 20:28.
Furthermore, the same exact Greek word translated God [with a small g in the New World Translation] at Jn. 1:1 is found in Jn. 3:16 and translated God, with a capital G in the New World Translation! The Watchtower Society wrote elsewhere the following about the Greek word found in Jn. 1:1 that they render a god:... the.os' meaning "God."(17)Rather than abandon their man-made doctrine about the Lord Jesus and just accept whatever Scripture teaches at Jn. 20:28 and elsewhere, that is, that Jesus is deity, the Watchtower Society has two faulty answers for Thomas' statement to Jesus: (1) The words "My Lord" were directed to Jesus, while the words "my God" were addressed to Jehovah in heaven! This answer is both unreasonable and incredible, since Thomas directed his entire statement to him (singular), that is, Jesus, the one to whom he was speaking. (2) The Watchtower also states that Thomas spoke the words "My Lord and my God" as an expression of surprise. Apparently, the Watchtower doesn't know that would be blasphemy and Jesus would have rebuked Thomas for that sin.
Scriptures which show the deity of Christ, according to the Grandville Sharp Greek grammar rule, are obscured in the New World Translation, e.g. Titus 2:13 and 2 Pet. 1:1. Notice how modern, reliable translations reveal the deity of Christ.
Grandville Sharp Greek Grammar Rulelooking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13, NKJV).In contrast, the New World Translation of the Jehovah's Witness renders these verses in violation to this Greek grammar rule:
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours (2 Pet. 1:1, NIV).While we wait for the happy hope and glorious manifestation of the great God and of [the] Savior of us, Christ Jesus (Titus 2:13).The Watchtower Society further confuses this issue as shown by their comment on Titus 2:13:
Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith, held in equal privilege with ours, by the righteousness of our God and [the] Savior Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 1:1).Therefore, in Titus 2:13, two distinct persons, Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, are mentioned. Throughout the Holy Scriptures it is not possible to identify Jehovah and Jesus as being the same individual.(18)Trinitarians do not believe Jesus is the same individual as the Father, as the Watchtower Society misrepresents! In other words, the Watchtower has erected a fictitious "straw man" regarding the Christian position, then attacks it to discredit this doctrine.
The Grandville Sharp Greek Grammar Rule cites good points to make with the Jehovah's Witnesses, who deny the Lord's deity, but such cannot be made with the New World Translation, since it violates Greek grammar. The three examples that Dana and Mantey cite from that Greek grammar rule are 2 Pet. 2:20, which indicates that Jesus is both Lord and Savior; 2 Pet. 1:1, which means that Jesus is our God and Savior; and Titus 2:13 which asserts that Jesus is the great God and Savior.(19)
In John 17:3, the New World Translation reads:
Taking In Knowledge or Knowing God?This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.Another discrepancy arises when one checks that with the Greek word-for-word rendering in the KIT, which reads differently than the New World Translation:.... they maybe knowing you ....
Clearly they are NOT the same! The Greek word found in John 17:3 is ginosko and is also found in the following verses. Please note how this word is used:
GinoskoBut if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him (1 Cor. 8:3).
But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God ... (Gal. 4:9).
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knoWatchtower Society those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity" (2 Tim. 2:19).
I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own (John 10:14).
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27).
I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one (1 John 2:13,14).
From these it is easy to see that the Greek word ginosko indicates a relation. So why would the Watchtower Society teach something else? Because they also teach that they alone can correctly teach God's truths. Hence, they interpret John 17:3 to mean knowledge, thereby bringing people into their organization by distorting Scripture. Again, they wrongly interpret this word knowledge:
The Meaning is Relation not KnowledgeJesus Christ identified a first requirement when he said in prayer to his Father: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." (John 17:3) Knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ includes knowledge of God's purposes regarding the earth and of Christ's role as earth's new King. Will you take in such knowledge by studying the Bible?(20)Friend, ask yourself the question, "How much knowledge did the Philippian jailer have to take in to become a Christian?" Did he have to submit himself to a six month book study first or did it occur immediately after he heard the truth cited in Acts 16:31 and acted on it? What about Cornelius, how much knowledge did he have to take in? See Acts 10:43-48. Remember, the Greek for John 17:3 does NOT say knowledge, but instead knowing you, which is the same as relationship.
In the New World Translation, the Bible of the Jehovah's Witnesses, we read the following:
The Usage of Jehovah in the New World TranslationTherefore, the foremost feature of this translation is the restoration of the divine name to its rightful place in the English text. It has been done, using the commonly accepted English form "Jehovah" 6,973 times in the HebreWatchtower Society Scriptures and 237 times in the Christian Greek Scriptures.(21)Why isn't the New World Translation consistent to use Jehovah every time Lord is found? Their reasonings are as follows:By determining where the inspired Christian writers have quoted from the Hebrew Scriptures. Then he must refer back to the original to locate whether the divine name appears there. This way he can determine the identity to give to ky'ri.os and the.os' and he can then clothe them with personality. Realizing that this is the time and place for it, we have followed this course in rendering our version of the Christian Greek Scriptures.(22)
Since one of the outstanding features of the New World Translation is their abundant usage of the word Jehovah, as just shown, how can they elsewhere admit that Yahweh is the more correct way to render God's name?
Jehovah is Not the More Correct Way!While inclining to view the pronunciation "Yah.weh" as the more correct way, we have retained the form "Jehovah" because of people's familiarity with it since the 14th century.(23)Why then did the New World Translation forfeit accuracy to use the word Jehovah, which began to be used in the 14th century? Their answer is because of people's familiarity with it. That is another way of saying that they have upheld the traditions of man's inventions since the 14th century at the expense of truth and accuracy, which they knew about. Notice again how many times this was done in the New World Translation:It has been done, using the commonly accepted English form "Jehovah" 6,973 times in the Hebrew Scriptures and 237 times in the Christian Greek Scriptures.(24)How can the New World Translation claim that Jehovah is the restoration of the divine name to its rightful place in the English text, since they openly admit Yahweh is more correct? Shouldn't they rather have stated that knowingly they have omitted the more correct name for God, that is Yahweh, and substituted a different name which began to be used in the 14th century -- Jehovah. Furthermore, how can they claim that God's name Jehovah should be vindicated? For many centuries, particularly after the days of Jesus and his apostles, the meaning of the name Jehovah has been lost to sight, and even the very name has been pushed into the background. Only in very recent years has God caused his name to be brought forth again to the light and its meaning to be made known to his faithful servants, because it is the due time and the vindication of his name Jehovah draWatchtower Society near. Let none now ignore that name!(25)
Yet a different piece of Watchtower literature states the same embarrassing information about the word Jehovah, but elaborates as to its Catholic origin in 1270:
The Usage of Jehovah in The New World Translation Came From CatholicismBy combining the vowel signs of 'Adho.nay and 'Elo.him' with the four consonants of the Tetragrammaton the pronunciations Yeho.wah' and Yehowih' were formed. The first of these provided the basis for the Latinized form "Jehova(h)." The first recorded use of this form dates from the thirteenth century C.E. Raymundus Martini, a Spanish monk of the Dominican Order, used it in his book Pugeo Fidei of the year 1270. Hebrew scholars generally favor "Yahweh" as the most likely pronunciation.(26)Please note: Hebrew scholars generally favor "Yahweh" as the most likely pronunciation.
Bruce Metzger, who criticizes the KJV's misusage of Jehovah, gives additional information:(27)The form "Jehovah" is of late medieval origin; it is a combination of the consonants of the Divine Name and the vowels attached to it by the Masoretes but belonging to an entirely different word .... (1) The word "Jehovah" does not accurately represent any form of the Name ever used in Hebrew. (2) The use of any proper name for the one and only God, as though there were other gods from whom the true God had to be distinguished, began to be discontinued in Judaism before the Christian era and is inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church.(28)Remarkably, the Watchtower has exalted in their own literature the usage of the inaccurate name for God, Jehovah, to a salvation issue:Have you been taught to use God's name, Jehovah? If not, your salvation is in jeopardy, for "everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved"! -- Acts 2:21; compare Joel 2:32.(29)So if one takes in knowledge about God's name and uses that accurate knowledge, as opposed to using the name Jehovah, then he will risk his own salvation, that is, if one accepts what the Watchtower Society declares about this.
Should a person call on Jehovah for salvation, which no one ever heard of until the 1270, or should he call on a different name? Let's allow the Apostle Paul to answer this for us, as he too refers to Joel 2:32. Paul wrote:
Salvation is Found in Only One Name! That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Rom. 10:9-13).In Rom. 10:9-13, Paul explicitly stated: (1) that Jesus is Lord; (2) Jesus richly blesses all who call on him; and (3) that these truths refer back to Joel 2:32 in that same passage where YHWH is found in the Hebrew, but here in Romans 10:9-13 applies them to Jesus! Either the Apostle Paul is wrong or the Watchtower Society is wrong! They can't both be right, since Paul taught we are to call on JESUS for salvation and the Watchtower, in contradistinction, is teaching we are to call on a hybrid name for God which didn't even exist for 13 centuries - Jehovah! By the way, the New World Translation is not consistent at Rom. 10:9 with the Greek word kurios by rendering it Lord and refering to Jesus unlike they did at Rev. 4:11, where it is also used and translated Jehovah. If they had been consistent at Rom. 10:9, their New World Translation would read Jesus is Jehovah, which they would never allow.
Shockingly, the Watchtower Society contradicts their own teaching about Joel 2:32 and Rom. 10:13 and their own New World Translation in the latter reference where they elsewhere write about the Son:There are verses in the Hebrew Scriptures about Jehovah that are quoted in the "New Testament" in a context speaking about the Son. (Isa. 40:3--Matt. 3:3--John 1:23; Joel 2:32--Rom. 10:13; Ps. 45:6, 7--Heb. 1:8, 9) This is understandable, for Jesus was the Father's foremost representative.(30)
Paul was not alone is teaching this way about Jesus' name. The Apostle Peter stated the same truth in different words and perhaps in a more clear fashion:
Salvation Is Found in No Other NameThen know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. He is "the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone." Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:10-12).In first century-Christianity, the ones who were in the truth taught we are to call on Jesus for salvation. There is no other name, as the Apostle Peter taught! This fact, however, has been brushed aside and replaced by the New World Translation with a different name to call on for salvation, which no one knew of for over 1,000 years!
In harmony with other Scriptures that exalt the name of Jesus, Paul and Silas taught:
Believe On Jesus For SalvationThey replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved - you and your household" (Acts 16:31).Note: God's servants did not say, "Believe in the Lord Jesus and the Father and you will be saved." See also Jn. 3:16.
The Greek word believe (pisteuo) means:pisteuo, pist-yoo'-o; from 4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by impl. to entrust (espec. one's spiritual well-being to Christ): - believe (-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with.(31)Dear reader, if you aren't extending a trusting-submitting faith in Jesus for your salvation, then you aren't saved, regardless of your zeal and good intentions, according to Scripture. Furthermore, nowhere are we told in Scripture to trust in any organization for our salvation. Call on Jesus now, the one who has the only name under heaven in which salvation is found (Acts 4:12). Please don't be deceived by a Bible translation, like the New World Tranlsation, which inserts and removes words without Greek justification for the support of fabricated doctrines produced by a Bible-defined false prophet.
To the surprise of many, the Lord taught one can read the Scriptures and still be without salvation. To get life one must come to JESUS, according to the Lord himself:
Come To Jesus For LifeYou diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life (John 5:39,40).The Watchtower Society doesn't allow their followers to come to me [Jesus] for the purpose of getting life, since they think he is merely a part of creation. They also deny that we should pray TO Jesus, by changing John 14:14. The Watchtower Society has come out in their publications and boldly taught the same error:Prayer is part of our worship and for this reason should be directed only to the Creator, Jehovah .... Jesus did not teach them to pray to himself ....(32)In contrast to the Watchtower Society, the same eternal truth as found in John 14:14 is reiterated at John 4:10 and linked to salvation:Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water" (John 4:10).The reason Jehovah's Witnesses don't ask Jesus for living water, as Jesus taught, is because they don't know (1) the gift of God or (2) that it is Scriptural to pray to the Lord Jesus, the one who was speaking to the woman at Jacob's well. Unfortunately, the Jehovah's Witnesses have been misled to believe that Jesus is merely Michael the archangel and hence one should never go to him for living water. Friend, the Watchtower Society has deceived multitudes into believing something about Jesus that isn't true and the New World Translation has helped in this great deception.
Who has the name in which forgiveness is found? According to first-century Christians the answer is simple:
Forgiveness is Found ONLY in Jesus' NameHe was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen - by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name (Acts 10:41-43).Clearly, Jesus is the one who has the name in which forgiveness of sins can be found. We are told to believe in him. After Cornelius heard that eternal truth, he instantly became a Christian. What an important key truth that is for salvation, but that is not what the Watchtower Society teaches! NOTE: Jehovah is NOT the name in which forgiveness is found, as you might be believing. Consider also the following two Scriptures:He told them, This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem (Luke 24:46,47).
Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses (Acts 13:38,39).
In support of John 14:14 is Acts 9:14-21:
Call On JESUS Like The Early ChristiansAnd he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name. But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name." Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit." Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength. Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. All those who heard him were astonished and asked, "Isn't he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn't he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?"Saul of Tarsus persecuted Christians, both men and women, who are described in the above passage as those who would call on [Jesus'] name. The same truth about early Christians praying to Jesus is found elsewhere in Scripture:(Rom 10:12) For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,Rom. 10:13, which is both immediately before and after two Scriptures that refer to the Lord Jesus, is fallaciously rendered in the New World Translation as:
(Rom 10:14) How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
(1 Cor 1:2) To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - their Lord and ours:
(2 Tim 2:22) Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. For 'everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.'Moreover, a footnote in the New World Translation wrongly connects the Lord of 2 Tim. 2:22 to Jehovah. Hence, it should be apparent that the New World Translation is fatally flawed and distorted to where one's salvation can be jeopardized by it. Friend, call on Jesus for salvation. Believe on him [Jesus] for your salvation. This was part of the message of the early Christians, who also recognized Jesus as the Apostle Thomas addressed him to his face: "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28).
In contrast to the facts, the Watchtower Society will continue to publish the following about their own New World Translation, to the spiritual detriment of those that will believe it:
The Lie Continues To Go Forth
