Letter From A Brazilian Spiritist

[Brazilian Spiritist writes] Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to tell you that I do not agree with your point of view about spiritism. I also would like to tell you that you are deeply wrong to say that it is something bad. I say it not because I am spiritist, but because I also believed spiritism was something wrong one day. But after I tried to understand it, by reading ... I realized that I was wrong. These authors are talking about Jesus Christ all the time, telling us to help everybody who needs help, and search for our own spiritual improvement. They tell us to follow the Lord's Word and to practice It. When the Bible say "not to get involved with spirits and mediums" it means those from Jesus' time, who were not prepared to bring us Jesus' message .... I am Brazilian, and I am spiritist. We have to work very hard to help poor people, not only those who need material help, but also those who need moral support. And we do it without obligating them to believe in what we believe. In fact, most of the time, they don't even know what are our believes [sic]. We do it following Jesus' words!!! God bless you all. I hope you understand me, I am writing you because it is such an injustice to judge something we don't know about it. Best regards.

A Christian's Response to This Brazilian Spiritist

Bible Answer:

Greetings in JESUS' holy name. THANK YOU for writing a kind letter to us. The vast majority of people who write to us regarding the magic arts are very rude. THANK YOU for being different.

The only way we will ever know how God feels about Spiritism is to read what He said about it as found in the Holy Bible. The books that you cited are subject to errors because they were written by mere man. But on the other hand, the Scriptures are of divine origin. They are absolute TRUTH.

Also, please know that though someone may write about Jesus Christ, that doesn't make them correct! Neither does it make them a Christian. Ponder this verse:
Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Mat 7:21)
If the authors of those books that you read informed the readers "to follow the Lord's Word and to practice it," they would have to be opposed to Spiritism, since God Himself is against Spiritism! Please note the following:
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. (Deu 18:10-12)

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (Rev 21:8)

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal 5:19-21)

Furthermore, please do NOT think that non-involvement with spirits and mediums was meant merely for those in Jesus' time.

Moreover, to truly "help" another, from a Christian point of view, is also to help them spiritually, which means not to lead them from the Scriptural commands to obey God. This command is violated by Spiritism, according to the above citations. Therefore, a Spiritist can NOT be following Jesus' words, since they themselves are NOT obeying God.

Finally, there is no judgment involved when it comes to knowing about the magic arts, witchcraft, occult, Spiritism or the like, since the Scriptures condemn this practice and all who are involved in it. For a Christian to declare what the Holy Bible says is NOT a judgment.

May you and all others that are involved in any form of the occult turn from such an evil practice, though you might not readily recognize it as such, and seek out God's will, as found in the Holy Bible. In first century Christianity, when those involved in sorcery repented they burned their sorcery books:

And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. (Acts 19:19)
Please remember this: THE TRUTH IS FOUND IN THE BIBLE.
