Timely Issues In The Church Of Our Day

Oh, I can hardly believe it. I started searching the scriptures for the truth about salvation and realized I had to leave the Baptist church because of their false teaching about eternal security and now I find a whole site devoted to the erroneous teaching. Thank you so much. It's thrilling to me because it seems God is really driving home the true message of the Bible to me - abide in Me ... Thanks for this incredible ground-breaking, church-rattling book.

.....................

Sir: I would first explain my circumstances then ask your advice. After 25 years of marriage my wife entered into a romance with my "best friend" who is a Deacon in the local First Baptist Church. Ten months later she told me she wanted a divorce "because she didn't love me." I refused to kick her out and tried for reconciliation and pleaded repeatedly with both of them to repent.

A year later we called the two married daughters home and told them, their spouses and our two sons who are still in high school of what was going on. I was leading a weakly Bible study, and had been for a year, which included the other man, his pastor, my wife, and a close friend of my wife's. Four months later my wife moved out and left me and the children of the home. 2-1/2 years from the start of their relationship she divorced me. The pastor of First Baptist knew of the relationship for over a year at that time. She and the other man have now been "married" (4 months after the divorce) by that same pastor. The two married daughters told her last January that neither they nor their children will have anything to do with the other man. (My wife told the one daughter she was being unchristian and needed to get herself "right with God.") The older son, who still lives at home, also refuses to have anything to do with the other man and has almost no contact with his mother. The youngest has continued to have a relationship with his mother and thereby with the other man as well.

How am I supposed to relate to her at this time? I am still trying to live as a faithful Christian husband and father for my family. I can not stop loving her or give up on her anymore than Christ would stop loving or give up on me, but how do I go about encouraging my family to still love her without supporting her adulterous marriage. How do I help lead her and the other man to repentance? Looking for clues is how I found your site and an article titled "Divorce, Remarriage, and Adultery." Do you have any advice? Frankly, the Bible has been my guide but I've been unable to discern any guidance for where I and my family are now. I have nightmares of seeing her screaming as she's thrown into the lake of fire. My health has declined and the doctor has now put me on antidepressants so I can continue to function and provide for my sons. How do I keep their adultery from destroying me and my children?

Response: Greetings in JESUS' holy name. We're so sorry for the pain and suffering that you have experienced (and still are) from your wife leaving you. We'll share our thoughts, but first please know that MANY other people have gone through similar things as yourself ... Now a few comments regarding your situation:

(1) Judgment Day is coming! Nobody's getting out of here alive. We will ALL stand before a holy God who hates sin and has the power to have souls cast into eternal fire. As for the Baptist deacon who "married" your wife, Jesus taught:

Mat 5:32 "But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery."
Hence, both your wife and former friend are described above.

(2) What will become of the sexually immoral? The Apostle Paul, the real grace teacher wrote:

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. (1 Cor. 6:9-11, NASB)
Their eternal future is described in Rev. 21:8:
"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars - their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
(3) How should real Christians treat ANY person who claims to be a Christian but is sexually immoral? According to Scripture, the answer is simple:
1 Cor 5:11 "But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat."
Hopefully such measures on the part of Christians to shun such people described above will bring them to repentance and salvation, but sometimes it doesn't since they can still rebel even at this point.

(4) The minister that "married" your wife to the deacon has aided their adultery. Hence, being the cause of another sinning would apply to him.

Mat 18:7 "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!"
He too needs to repent and tell those two they are not really married in God's eyes, but are committing adultery. He needs to be thinking of his own Judgment Day before God more than what might happen here and now for speaking the truth of Scripture. But of course, he probably believes in the heresy of eternal security. This would mean everybody is still saved, even the two now committing adultery in God's eyes.

(5) As for you, God didn't betray you, so don't turn from Him. He is still the same yesterday, today and forever. Think about the kingdom of God, living holy and bearing good fruit. Remember Rev. 21:1-8, especially v. 4. Try to help hurting people and this will refresh and help you in doing so. Stay in the Bible. Also, find a church that REJECTS the heresy of eternal security and is sound in doctrine. GOD BLESS YOU.

We are starting a men's Bible Study to learn more about sharing our faith. One of our goals is to actually go out and distribute tracts, street meetings, etc. We are looking for biblically sound tracts, tapes and other materials to hand out to the lost ... I enjoy your website. It is very informative. Your book has also been a great help in learning more about the deception of once saved always saved (OSAS). God Bless!

You said that the bible does not show evidence of respect for Mary. When the angel approached her he said Hail full of grace. If one is full of grace there is no sin since sin is the absence of grace. This greeting showed much respect. At the wedding feast at Cana Jesus showed great respect for his mother in performing a miracle even though his planned time had not come. He could easily have said, woman, get lost. Before dying on the cross, Jesus gave his mother to the disciple that he loved and said son behold your Mother and Mother behold your son. This I believe is symbolic of His wish for His followers to accept Mary as their Mother and she is given over to love Christ's followers as her own.

Response: Greetings in Jesus' holy name. Thank you for your email regarding Mary. You may be quite surprised to learn that another in the New Testament has been described as being full of grace besides her! Please note the following verse which was written about Stephen:

Acts 6:8 "Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people."
That destroys your concept of such a one being sinless, as the Catholic church would teach. Have you also noticed the following Scripture, which would include Mary:
1 John 1:10 "If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."
The truth is, Mary sinned like the rest of us and she also needed salvation or she would have gone to Hell. The reason this sounds so strange to you is because Catholicism has deified Mary. This is especially clear when they openly proclaim her as their "life, sweetness and hope" as stated in the Hail Holy Queen prayer found in the Rosary! Have you read our article on this subject? While it is true that Jesus honored Mary's request at the wedding feast at Cana, He did not do similarly at a different time:
Mat 12:47-50 Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you." He replied to him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" Pointing to his disciples, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
Notice, Jesus did not honor Mary's desire to speak to him at that time! You also mentioned Jesus giving his mother to his disciple, John whom he loved. But friend, think about it. The greater one takes care of the lesser one and not the reverse! That verse does not exalt Mary. By the way, Jesus himself stated there was a greater than his own mother! The Lord spoke the following:
Mat 11:11 "I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he."
Please remember this: if one is going to come to Jesus and find salvation, he must come on the Lord's terms. Jesus taught us to come directly to himself, which is clearly exemplified with the dying thief. This vitally conflicts with what the Catholic Church teaches on this subject. They teach "To Jesus Through Mary." If one tries to get to Jesus by first going through Mary, they are in disobedience to the Lord's directives and consequently, will never find him! The Scriptures were written to make us wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 3:15). You will do well to follow the message of the Holy Bible and do not deviate in the slightest way. God bless you.

I am a businessman living in the NW subs of ... I have been exposed to pornography since the age of 9. I am now 38. I have been married for more than 17 years. My wife and I recently separated and I am in professional christian counseling for my addiction. I have not only been active in the literature and media, but also in the clubs and call girls. I am DD and drug free according to my physician. I am a new believer and have agreed with God regarding my sins and have accepted Jesus the Christ as my deliverer from sin and to God, who I accept as my adopted Father. In my last counseling session, I agreed to seek a role model ... someone whose been through my experience and is overcoming or has overcome in this vital area of my life. Like AA, this would [be] someone to help keep me in line with my goals to overcome this sin in my life. Thank you.

Response: Greetings in Jesus' holy name. We thank you for your candid letter. And we also rejoice that you have come to the Lord. Yes, it is an absolute fact, the only way one can find spiritual freedom from sin addiction is to come to Jesus. Pornography (lusting in the heart) is certainly under that category and according to Jesus, such a form of adultery can send one to Hell:

Mat 5:28 "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Mat 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."
The best way to walk pure and upright consistently before the Lord is to have your mind locked on spiritual things. Hence, we recommend hiding God's word in your heart so that you will not sin against him. Furthermore, get involved in serving the Lord. If your mind is active in these endeavors, the various filthy things that you have seen in the past will not have the hold they once did. They will become less and less strong to the point that they vanish completely. It would also be a great idea for you to read a minimum of one or two hours of the Bible every day, schedule permitting - putting what you find there into practice. Have you listened to our on-line sermon entitled, "The Why and How of Memorizing Scripture"? If not, take an hour and listen to it. It should help you much. Regarding a role model, the Christian's role model is none other than the Lord Himself. So the best thing that you can do is to so learn his word that after a period of time, you will be able to more or less know what Jesus would do in a given situation. Please know you are in a very intense spiritual battle. The devil not only wants to destroy your marriage but wants to damn your eternal soul. He has been very successful using pornography in the past with many, but he will not hurt you if you abide by the rules as set down in Scripture. You must not violate what the Bible teaches. Get in it, learn it, even memorize it as though your life depends upon it, for it surely does, that is, your eternal existence especially depends upon it! Please do not follow the crowd. Get serious with God. This is what you need to do, but you also need to cut out various forms of satanic temptation, even the subtle ones, such as watching TV and listening to secular music over the radio. These are two very powerful mediums in which the devil has seduced many into various forms of immorality. TV addiction has a great hold on many. In our day, many think they can't even exist without the television. This is an absolute lie. My wife and I have not watched TV for years! We don't even get the news from TV! It is a great blessing to have all this extra time to get into the Scriptures and to serve our precious God. Please do not hesitate to write again if we can help you somehow. GOD BLESS YOU.

I have been all over this internet and this is one of the most awesome sites I have seen! Why don't you have like a chat room where someone could talk with a spiritual leader or something? I am very impressed!!!! I like the fact all the scriptural writings you have! It definitely leaves no one to question the bible and what it says!!! Pretty awesome!

I just wanted to encourage you to continue on with the great website. You have some valuable information that I want to pass on to others. The Lord bless you.

Greetings in the name of the LORD and also from Sydney, Australia! Firstup, l must congratulate you on having a wonderful website and l fully agree with your views regarding OSAS. I personally believe one of the main reasons why there is so much worldliness, compromise, apathy and lack of zeal in our churches today is because of this doctrine. I'm sad to say that tragically many people who profess to be Christians have absolutely no idea what it really means to be a follower of Jesus. I'm presently not attending any particular church at the moment as I've had a gutful with what's happening in our churches. Is it any wonder that a large number of our churches are spiritually dead and going nowhere. I for one will never associate with any church which teaches the OSAS doctrine. Keep up the good work as we need more people like you to proclaim the gospel. Kind regards.

I was appalled to find you charging money to receive what you claim to believe to be the truth. No matter what may feel about whether a sheep of Christ can ever perish, the word of God is so plain about charging money to get teaching on God's word "Freely you have received, freely give." "Not making merchandise of the word of God," these instructions are so clear, and the heart the [sic] understands the grace of the living God will have the desire to make the glad tidings known FOR FREE.

Response: The verse you have misused, and the one before it is:

Mat 10:7 "As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give."
In that passage we see the Lord's disciples going forth with a message and spiritual power to "heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons." They freely received that spiritual power from Jesus and were to dispense it freely without financial charge. But that has NOTHING to do with ministries or churches charging for books, literature, cassettes, etc.! To use it in that way is to blatantly take that passage out of context! Furthermore, we have not "freely" received the paper, ink, cassettes nor the postage to mail them out to people around the world! Nonetheless we do, at times, give away free materials, but not because of the Scripture to which you refer. GOD BLESS YOU.

I think that your entire article is a fraud and misinterpretation of the truth. Abraham was an astrologer. Jacob, Moses, and Elijah were into magic. Jesus Christ himself gave guidance to people in a fortune telling manner. What I am trying to say is that not all people with the powers you have mentioned are evil and demonic, you are. Why do I say this? Because your kind who claim to follow the example of the Prince of Peace go out and persecute others for having the gifts He gives them ... I am quite certain that if Christ were to appear today as He did 2000 years ago ... it would be Christians that would condemn and crucify him ... It's true ... the modern church is the continuation of crucifixion of the Savior Kings eternal spirit ... It's perverted hateful and has transformed His name from a symbol of peace, tolerance, and love ... to represent hatred, bigotry and evil. I'm sorry to say something like this to you on Christmas but I did, so what do you think? I'm sure your response will prove my accusation.

Response: Greetings in JESUS' holy name. What you wrote about Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Elijah and Jesus is nonsense! You cannot supply Scripture references for such statements. Either you or the Scriptures are wrong. Deut. 18:10-12 and other verses clearly condemn the things you are trying to justify, like it or not. Furthermore, all who practice the magic arts will be thrown into the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8), unless they turn from such. God Himself spoke Rev. 21:8. To repeat what the Scriptures say is NOT "persecution" as you claim. First, it is obeying God and secondly it is helping people who have a heart for truth to come into the light. Though truth is sometimes very disturbing, it is always VITAL. Also, you seem to think you have an occultic "gift" from God, yet such a "gift" is condemned by the Bible, God's word. Such "gifts" must come from another spiritual source, unless God is very confused, which is impossible! True Christians would NEVER crucify the Lord. You are filled with anger to the point of misrepresenting true Christians or perhaps you are sincerely misinformed about Christians. But either way, change your views or don't speak the way you write. To learn what true Christians believe, learn the New Testament. As with some articles which refute the occult, you will probably misunderstand this email too. Remember Deut. 18:10-12.

.....................

... I also learned that most Christians completely accept the authority of the Bible as God's Word without knowing anything about its origin, individual authors, or history of compilation. It is for this latter reason I find objections to Mormonism made on the grounds of Joseph Smith's alleged character flaws or self-contradicting doctrine to be somewhat hypocritical. I have read just about every argument as to why Joseph Smith was or was not a true prophet, and I can conclude only by saying that if the fruit of the Spirit is indeed love, joy, peace, etc. (Galatians 5:22,23) and that if the Spirit will guide us into all truth (John 16:13), then the [Mormon] Church passes the ultimate acid test.

Response: Greetings in JESUS' holy name. It is interesting to me that you would write at the same time that I'm reading Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie. (I'm going to do another article showing what Mormonism really believes.) I was surprised to read some of your materials about Adam, but even more about godhood in Mormonism through "exaltation" such as on p. 613,

"... the man and the woman, will be a god. As such they will rule over their dominions forever."
This idea is not from the same source as the Holy Bible. Among other Scriptures I'm thinking of Jer. 10:11:
"Tell them this: 'These gods, who did not make the heavens and the earth, will perish from the earth and from under the heavens.'"
In other words, the LDS doctrine that man can become god is refuted here because they didn't make the heavens and earth. Again, they will perish!
Furthermore, regarding those that "overcome" in the end, we read the following about them:
Rev 21:7 "He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son."
God Himself clearly said such people will always remain a "son," that is, they will NEVER become a "god," as Joseph Smith's Mormonism teaches! Smith was a proven false teacher and false prophet, even though that might be a bitter pill for you to swallow. The evidence leads us to no other conclusion. I spent the first 23 years of my life in a false religion too. (I was a Catholic.) I know it is painful to face the facts, but please do it anyways. Your eternal soul is at stake. BTW, the fruit of the Spirit argument, as cited in Gal. 5, can be used by any religious group! That is NOT the test, much less the "acid test" for Smith and Mormonism. Remember Mt. 24:11. GOD BLESS YOU.
