"ALL THE PROPHETS testify about him that everyone who believes in him
receives forgiveness of sins through his name." (Acts 10:43)
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. (1 Pet 1:23)

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ FOR the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38, NIV)NOTE: As in English, the Greek term (eis) translated "for" has more than 1 meaning. The translation that best conveys what Acts 2:38 is saying - being consistent with other scriptures (Acts 3:19, etc.) - is shown here:
And Peter said to them, 'Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ BECAUSE OF the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.' (Acts 2:38, Amplified Bible)'For' (eis) can mean BECAUSE OF as shown elsewhere, where it is also found as in Acts 2:38:
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented AT [eis is the Greek translated 'at' here] the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here. (Mat 12:41)
Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded FOR [eis] your cleansing, as a testimony to them." (Luke 5:14)That leper had already been cleansed of leprosy. The sacrifice he was to give was BECAUSE OF his cleansing - NOT 'in order to' get cleansed.
Acts 2:38 is saying they needed to be baptized BECAUSE OF sins forgiven at repentance; then, they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. That is how we should understand Acts 2:38 - just like we understand this statement in our day:
'Go and take 2 aspirins for your headache.'
Meaning BECAUSE OF your headache, take 2 aspirins.

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but ONLY he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. MANY will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Mat 7:21-23)
"For MANY are invited, but few are chosen." (Mat 22:14)
For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, ' and will deceive MANY. (Mat 24:5)
At that time MANY will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, (Mat 24:10)
and many false prophets will appear and deceive MANY people. (Mat 24:11)
Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because MANY, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. (Luke 13:24)50% of the Virgins become LOST (Mt. 25:1-13). **YOU MUST NOT BE LIKE MOST OF THE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE, even Christians!!!! STAY ON GUARD. BE CAREFUL. ENDURE.

I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. (Exo 17:6)
The LORD said to Moses, "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink." So Moses took the staff from the Lord's presence, just as he commanded him. He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?" Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them." (Num 20:7-12)CAREFULLY NOTE the TEST Moses was subjected to and his punishment for disobedience. He was told to bring his staff, but to SPEAK to the rock (and NOT use his staff)!

...He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Pet 3:9)
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Mat 7:13,14)Note another example of God's will which obviously is not occurring in the lives of many.
It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; (1 Thess. 4:3)

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and ALL LIARS--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (Rev 21:8)** NEVER MINIMIZE WORDS. YOUR WORDS ARE VERY POWERFUL AND IMPORTANT. BE TRUTHFUL OR DO NOT SPEAK AT ALL. (Jesus never answered every question.)
Similarly, ONE LIE (because of coveting) messed things up for Gehazi too:
Then he went in and stood before his master Elisha. "Where have you been, Gehazi?" Elisha asked. "Your servant didn't go anywhere," Gehazi answered. But Elisha said to him, "Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you? Is this the time to take money, or to accept clothes, olive groves, vineyards, flocks, herds, or menservants and maidservants? Naaman's leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever." Then Gehazi went from Elisha's presence and he was leprous, as white as snow. (2 Ki 5:25-27)
