Jesus Went to Hell - WHAT?!
A Jehovah's Witness recently mentioned Acts 2:31 to support their 'hell is the common grave' dogma. He must have been thinking about the KJV rendering, which states:He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that HIS SOUL WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL , neither his flesh did see corruption. (Acts 2:31, KJV)The ESV (a much better Bible translation) reads:
he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. (Acts 2:31)The foregoing example is, in part, how JWs argue to deny eternal conscious torment for the wicked dead. Part of this confusion was created from the KJV, which has translated different Greek terms all as "hell".
Like it or not, the terrifying eternal conscious fiery torment is the scriptural teaching. Rev. 20:10 is most clear on that point.
Sodom and Gomorrah is another example of conscious eternal torment, that is, their ongoing punishment of eternal fire (Jude 1:7) and this too - "I am in agony in this fire." (Luke 16:24)

The Baffling Jimmy Swaggart Preaching-Prostitutes Puzzle CONTINUES ON
QUESTION for those still wondering: How could Jimmy Swaggart have had such exceptional musical talent and powerful preaching abilities, affecting millions around the world, all while he was in horrible mental adultery (lust - Mt. 5:28,29) and, yet at the same time, appear to be such a godly man?Moreover, three years after he was initially exposed in 1988 for being with a prostitute (accompanied by the well-known TV acknowledgment of it that he had 'sinned'), he was caught a second time in 1991 in California! The second prostitute was Rosemary Garcia, who was in a car with Swaggart, when the police pulled him over and gave him 3 traffic tickets [https://www.kcra.com/article/jimmy-swaggart-scandal/65267482].
People acquainted with his ministry were both devastated and perplexed over the first exposure in 1988, and many don't seem aware of this second incident. ONLY God knows the spiritual damages done by his hypocritical life, which overshadowed and dwarfed his preaching and singing.
Scripture cites the qualifications for spiritual leadership to be: (1) of godly character and (2) able to refute those who oppose sound doctrine (1 Tim. 3; Tit. 1; 1 Pet. 5). Despite Swaggart's charisma, his musical talents and preaching abilities, he was HIGHLY UNFIT FOR THE POSITION HE HELD, AND HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THERE. The worldwide, collateral damage by his immorality is staggering and includes casting evil suspicion on ALL preachers.
POSSIBLE ANSWER: Finally, the reason so many were saved and blessed by the Word of God, sung and preached by Swaggart, is because of the latent power in God's living word itself. Consider the following: (1) Jonah's heart was not right when he preached to the Ninevites, yet a MASSIVE number of people repented (Jonah 3:10-4:11). (2) While Paul was in prison and in chain, some preached Christ there with the UNGODLY MOTIVE OF STIRRING UP TROUBLE FOR PAUL. Paul stated,
The former preach Christ out of SELFISH AMBITION, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether FROM FALSE MOTIVES or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice," (Phil 1:17,18). Read the whole context (Phil. 1:12-18).

The "God as you understand Him" of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
The 'god' of AA is any Higher Power (or a Power greater than oneself). In AA's 'Twelve Steps', that type of indistinct 'God' exists FOR EVERYONE - Hindus, Muslims, Mormons, Catholics, etc., but in reality, such is a DANGEROUS fantasy, for the ONLY ONE "true and living God" is the God of the Bible. ALL other so-called gods are false and imaginary:...We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. So if the Son sets you **free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)** Set free means set free from sin addictions. The set free "WERE" [past tense as shown in1 Cor. 6:11] **FORMERLY the things listed in 1 Cor. 6:9-10, including "drunkards".
