* Simon offered MONEY to have his religious ministry. [Some wicked people think money can buy them anything, even a religious ministry, just like Simon.]
* At that point, Simon's heart was NOT right with God. He was "CAPTIVE TO SIN" again, but it wasn't porn addiction, alcoholism, drug addiction, etc.
* Simon was FULL OF BITTERNESS. Before Philip arrived in that area, he was the focal point. He now wanted to be able to do something that Philip couldn't do (lay hands on Christians for them to be filled with the Holy Spirit - the reason the Apostles went there). IF Simon could have bought that gift, in his mind, he would have been a focal point again as Peter and John surely were with their special ability.
* Religious Simon even believed in the power of prayer, yet he was filled with sin and back on the road to hell.
**Earlier, Simon had saving faith, which qualified him to be Christian baptized, but he later became lost again, which fact also disproves eternal security. Before Peter arrived to the region:
Simon himself believed and was baptized .... (Acts 8:13)Simon, when rebuked by Peter, was NOT a murderer, a thief, a liar, a false teacher, etc.! He was interested in a ministry, but did not qualify spiritually.
* Simon had religious zeal, yet was lost and needed to REPENT. [Simon was more interested in Peter praying for him than repenting and praying himself.] However, that Simon asked Peter to pray for him after Peter's rebuking him is a good sign; many do not respond to a rebuke with such humility but, rather, with offense and indignation - like Herodias in response to the rebuke of John the Baptist and like the Pharisees when Jesus preached.

(Rom. 6:22)So, are YOU set free from sin addiction NOW? IF not, you are not really Jesus' disciple (a true Christian) now, but by repenting, your heart and spiritual condition CAN change (Rom. 6:6,7). You CAN be set free - from your sin addictions - to become Jesus' disciple.
RECAP: the "Truth Will Set You Free" comes from holding to Jesus' teachings and the freedom is from sin addictions - not from trouble, social injustice, or political oppression, and certainly not freedom to indulge the sinful nature (Rom. 6:1).
On a side note, the eternal security teachers who use the "Romans Road" gospel to evangelize often EXCLUDE ROMANS 6:18; 6:23.

**2 Timothy is LOADED with special, prized and eternal truth, as is 2 Timothy 4. That last chapter was Paul's final instructions to his spiritual son in the faith. Read, ponder, and memorize some of those truths for a blessing.

The devil might come as a friend, a person in need, or perhaps even a subtle dream to lead you astray that you want to believe came from God. Your enemy wants you weakened and deceived so that you cannot serve God, bring forth good fruit or be a godly bright example. HE WANTS YOU IN ETERNAL FIRE!

One example of falling away was the younger widows Paul mentioned, who turned from their "dedication to Christ" (1 Tim. 5:11) to this:
Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan. (1 Tim. 5:15)Salvation is both instant and CONTINUOUS, assuming we CONTINUE TO FOLLOW JESUS. Know also that many of the verbs throughout the New Testament were written in the CONTINUOUS tense in the Greek. To believe on (John 3:16) and to follow Jesus (John 10:27) are both in the continuous tense, as are many other verbs and commands - to "keep on believing" and to "keep on following". Again, Hebrews 6:4-6 is referring to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and is most clearly detailed in Mark 3:22-30 where the Pharisees accused the Lord Jesus of casting out demons by the prince of demons. Some of the Hebrew Christians buckled under the persecution and in order to return to the synagogue, they had to declare that Jesus performed his miracles by the power of the devil. THAT is the only type of blasphemy that is unforgivable.
NOTE: Unforgivable sin is NOT stated as the continual state of unbelief in the Lord Jesus, thereby ERRANTLY suggesting it only takes a moment of saving-regenerating faith to be eternally secure in salvation or that if one ever had a moment of saving faith, they cannot or "will not" ever commit eternal sin.
And repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem (Lk. 24:47).

This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe (1 Tim. 4:9,10).It is argued by proponents of Universalism that Jesus is "the savior of all men". Hence they conclude, all will be saved, but the rest of this passage says ESPECIALLY OF THOSE WHO BELIEVE. In other words, even though Jesus died for all people - the redeemed and the world (1 John 2:2), he is only the savior of all who would become true believers in the Lord Jesus. Sadly, not everyone has faith:

He did not come to bring about 'social justice' and political change in this cursed age, (though we ARE to help the poor (Gal. 2:10 etc.), show proper respect to everyone (1 Pet. 2:17) and love our neighbor as ourselves (Mk. 12:31); but instead, Jesus came, among other things, to reconcile people (sinners) to God so that they could inherit a more perfect country - a heavenly one (Heb. 11:16).
The change Jesus came to bring about was men's hearts, not social conditions, and he does not care about race, ethnicity, nationality, or social position. Jesus is THE (sole) way for ALL humankind (Jn. 14:6) and God ONLY LOOKS AT THE HEART of man.
